Chinmaya Jayanti (Seva Day)
Saturday, May 8, 2010, 10:00–11:30 am …
Hari Om and Salutations!
The Message from H.H. Swami Tejomayananda, Head of Chinmaya Mission:
There are two most important aspects of Chinmaya Mission, namely, one’s own spiritual growth and one’s positive contri-bution to society. Keeping this in view, it has been decided that Pujya Gurudev’s Jayanti (birthday) — 8th May — will be observed by all of the Chinmaya Family as Seva Day.
The Purpose
Seva Day should be observed collectively or individually, with commitment and intensity. The sanctity of it should be nurtured by abstinence from smoking, drinking, consuming non-vegetarian food, partying, and so on. The birth of a mahatma is the beginning of his divine work. So it is appropriate that Gurudev’s Jayanti is celebrated as Seva Day.
Swami Tejomayananda
The Program
On Seva Day, while we will continue to hold a special program, such as Guru Paduka pooja, satsang, and so on, at the Centres, the highlight of the day will be seva.
At Shivalaya, we are celebrating Pujya Gurudev’s Jayanti on May 8 with Guru Paduka pooja and satsang from 10:00-11:30 am, followed by Seva of Spring Cleaning outside and inside the ashram, culminating with samashti prasad.
May this Spring Cleaning be the means to gain the required purity and clarity of mind so that we can enjoy our progress on the spiritual path!
May Gurudev’s blessings and guidance show us the way to inner purity and Self-unfoldment.
Swamini Shivapriyananda
